Karen, I'll set that idea up sometime this week, You can then make threads with all useful information and I'll make them sticky posts in the Hedgehog part. Sorry to hear about the dead hog I'd be upset myself If I seen one dead in our road. Phoned the hog centre I take my hogs to today for updates and the hogs I have taken all gaining weight and healthy. They all have names so the woman's put down on the notes our address to bring them back in Spring, She told me that they will come as pairs though, She said with you having a good number hedgehogs in your area we will give you double what you've brought in if that is okay with you, Of course I agreed, So in spring i'll be having atleast 6 coming back to the garden from the rescue she said the autumn babies get let go in pairs Male / Female in hopes they go on to breed in the area they are put in. Really good rescue centre, They have over 100 hogs at the moment 80% of them staying over the winter. Had a chat to the woman about my current two babies with their mum and she said leave it until end of month and see what they weight, If they aren't good enough weight we will take them off you for the winter but aslong as they have a good food supply and not out in the daytime they should reach a good weight if they near 400g.

They really are wonderful what they do, as are you I am awaiting a reply from our centre regarding the weight loss. I wonder if she has parasites causing her to lose weight, so hope they can take her.

Ahhhh, I’m sorry to hear that Karen, I was hoping Charlotte will have put some weight on. Do you have a good rescue centre near you? Is Lola still visiting? I better weigh Rudey at the end of the week. He does appear to feed very well during the night, he is in and out of the feeding box and drinks well too.
Paul, you are very lucky to have such a good rescue centre near you. I had 1 reply out of 3 emails I sent.
Rudey spent his time sleeping in the original house and then just before 6am went to sleep in the hedgehog house around the side of my house........yes Karen, they are like the birds! Both the houses are full of leaves, I do leave big piles outside of each house. Any ideas Paul, why he has done this?

Karen, It could have something going on inside if its losing weight, I know that alot autumn babies get "lungworm" that can kill them. One of mine had something going on but they put it on treatment and thankfully it's okay now, I think the little guy's probably got something going on hopefully you can get it to a rescue and its able to be treated.
Amanda, I have seen that hedgehogs make two nests sometimes, This is to give them a different option incase of the nests is disturbed or floored with rain etc. He / She is probably doing this which is a good sign because both nests are in your garden!

Yes I read Paul that lungworm is common in juveniles, she appears fine on the outside, but who knows what she has on the inside. I have a poo sample for them if they want to test it. Amanda. yes we do but they seem to be overrun like most places, I am waiting to hear back from them. Fingers crossed they will have room for her.

Hi Paul, yes I did, so relieved they could take her in. They are very busy, just had two in today at 80grams! Hopefully she will get all she needs and once up to weight they asked me if I was interested in keeping her over winter if necessary with their full support, I said yes as I have the room and all needed so will see how she goes. My other female who has been regular visitor came last night and was bringing leaves into the hog house, so will be interesting to see what comes of it. She is a good size at least twice the size of Catherine.

I’m so glad that they were able to take Catherine in to look after her. That would be great if you are able to have her over winter. Great news that Lola is bringing leaves in, hopefully she will be your tenant over winter

Well..... since Rudey has woken this evening, he has eaten and gone to sleep in the hedgehog house in the back garden (original) My new camera arrived today, so I have very quickly fitted in the hedgehog house at the side of my house / back of the shed. I put it upside down due to me rushing so the cable is the wrong way I will sort it out on Thursday now, but at least I can see what he is up to now. I bet now that I have put a camera in, he will not use it 🤣

Typical isnt it, I am sure the loe toying with us humans the other female as bringing leaves in last night, but has left for the day. but she is in and out all through the night eating and napping! Spotted a few ticks on her so I may get them off her before she hibernates. I bought the tool to remove them.

I have just weighed Rudey, he is 662g
I weighed him on the 3rd November and he was 441g, so unless it is a different hedgehog, he has put 221g’s on in 10 days

Good lord! he is a big lad. I know they do put eight on fast, around 10 to 20 grams a day. Hope my Catherine is! My other female who I have called Harriet is still making her bed cosy and naps through the night and leaves at around 5am.

No I haven't heard will ring in a few days to see how she is.Well Lola is a mystery to be honest she started visiting back in August, she was noticeable as she was the smallest one coming, then she started using the hog house for naps then didnt see her for a while, around three weeks ago I cant fully remember when but this medium size hog came and I didnt recognise it but found she was a female and she started to use the hog house, I have tried to look at clips to see if its a grown up version of Lola but I am not sure, so anyway she has been coming and sleeping in the night and thought she needs a name, Harriet popped into my head, so thats the tale. I hope she is Lola but not sure.

Awwww Harriet is adorable She certainly looks at home there! The hedgehogs do like to keep us guessing don’t they. I hope it is a grown up Lola. They grow quickly! I do wonder what happened to my first hedgehog, he was huge. I do t see any other hedgehogs in the garden other than Rudey.... oh btw he is ‘house trained’ now, he doesn’t poop in the feeding house anymore. How is your hedgehog clan Paul?

She is adorable but she isnt house trained always pooing in there. I should clean it out but she has it all cosy and brought so many leaves in I would hate to disturb it.

He is probably in hibernation I read big ones especially males hibernate early. He will e tucked up nice and warm somewhere.

I don’t know what Rudey has done in the hedgehog houses where he has built nests, I wouldn’t touch them. He was pooping in the food house, but not doing that anymore, so house trained in that respect It’s gone warm here, just wet!

Same here Amanda quite mild but wet. The wet isnt good or them, I wish we could have a dry spell. Harriet spent a good 10 minutes fetching leaves and straw in at 2am, after waking up from a nap. Then she had a feed and left, she has packed quite a lot in her house now, wonder if it will be used for hibernating when it gets real cold.
