I saw a GT flying across the grass towards the wallbox about 15 mins ago. I connected the camera and....... I shall need to have a look tonight now....

I think it could be Tuppence - A GT has just been into the box carrying a mealworm in her beak, hopped toward the egg, looked at it a bit quizzically, swallowed the mealie and vacated the box.

It certainly is Sue - she's laid an egg less than 24 hrs after the previous clutch had fledged. Here she is tonight at around 8-15, bedding down on the solitary egg, - We'll see what the morrow brings.!

I’m wondering if she hadn’t finished laying first time round Beechnut, hence your low clutch!! Or if she really didn’t like her first hubby so didn’t want many chicks with him & moved on to her fancy man to have a family with him!! Can’t wait to see the saga unfold!!!! Elle xx

Well seems things have been happening while I've been away. Great news Beechnut. I had a GT on my wool dispenser today so there is another nest being built around here somewhere but not in my boxes

Wow Beechnut, this is fantastic news, I wonder if she has another few eggs, maybe just enough when combined with the first clutch would have made a large brood initially (I hope you followed that ok)!

Beechnut, this happened to us with Great tits some 14 years ago. I wrote to the RSPB magazine who published my letter and said they were positive it would be a second female as the first would still be feeding the fledglings.

I am pretty convinced our great tit is the same female having a 2nd brood. She trills to the male in the nest box which none of our other occupants have ever done. The male is very dominant and chases off any other great tits from the feeder and garden. I would be very surprised if this was a different pair or female.
