We have had a pair of finches coming back. Three or four times a day on the nijer feeder.

Goldfinches are cute birds Twinkle. I remember as a young lad in the 1960's visiting our local park aviary to look at Goldfinches, Greenfinches and Canaries. Up until the early 1990's I had never seen one in the wild. Now we have flocks of 15 to 50 visiting Sunflower heart feeders. I used to feed Niger seed but they stopped feeding on it, preferring the sunflower hearts.
A few years ago we had a pair that successfully nested in our Cotoneaster berry shrub that grows 3/4 of the way up the front of our house. We could watch the nest from our front window, a tiny thing under the leaves right at the end of a branch. I have spotted a pair visiting the same climber a couple of times during this last week, unfortunately although its an evergreen, it does lose a lot of leaves in winter and it is not until the end of May that the new leaves provide enough cover for a nest.

Goldfinches are one of my favourite birds Twinkle. We get so many on the sunflower hearts in the winter , they are very messy feeders but we wouldn’t be without their visits. We call them Bandits as it looks as though they have black balaclava helmets on.😂
