Yes Paul the 8th egg this morning and I think she might be incubating now. Andi brought her two mealies for her breakfast and to show what a good parent he can be. Makes a difference I think in serving them a little earlier. I will also use scott feeder when it all hots up! I see you are at the boring bit? icon_biggrin

Thanks Beechnut wonder if the last one will be infertile have to wait and see? By the way it's probably a daft question but have you ever had or seen a scruffy Gt either in the field or any of your parents, I haven't, they don't seem to suffer perhaps in the way BT's do with mites? How are yours today all on track I hope.

I thought she would Kathy, Tatty had her 9th one this morning. Our male is bringing alot of caterpillars though to feed her so that is a good sign, They always get on to the mealworms fast in scott feeder anyway so shouldn't be a problem anyway, But its still good to see alot of nature food is about aswell. Yes boring stage now though Kathy haha for both my sparrow and blue tit the sparrows eggs due to hatch next week though so that is good!

Brilliant news Kathy. Flo is doing a great job and Andi is looking after her well. Saw my male bring an offering to the nest this morning, but obviously the female wasn’t at home as he looked inside and left with it still in his beak. Probably ate it himself - but he is trying

Thanks Elle But 9 eggs this morning, same as the last two years, wonder if this pair are the same birds? And I have had a Starling visit to the box but think they are already nesting, but it was a nice surprise! Sue -Have you noticed anything more today, must have eggs surely, sounds like female nipped out for a comfort break and he wasn't told!
Diane -Andi very protective when I switched on this morning at 7am two birds in the box, thought for a moment I had two females because the other was standing over her while she was in the nest cup. Then I realised it was Andi & he had brought breakfast and was waiting for the coast to be clear before he flew out avoiding attention to the nest by other birds that were cawing away! He has done this twice this morning. Interesting isn't it?

Hi Kathy, am certain have eggs but don’t think incubation has started yet. I try to watch but difficult to keep eye on it at time Saw them both fly into the box this morning but he was only in there a second and a few minutes later she flew out. I am guessing she goes in and turns eggs but not staying for any length of time. It’s my guess there are about 8 eggs now so incubating could start any day. So glad Flo doing so well. Sue

A cold grey day yesterday to match this footage and my thoughts, however, a highlight was produced from Flo & Andi.

How strange Kathy - never seen or heard of anything like that. Maybe Andi just wanted a rest and thought that was a lovely warm spot for a moment . Do keep us informed if anything else strange happens. Sue

Hi Diane & Sue Yes, you are correct it was a lovely bit of footage after what can be a boring couple of weeks waiting for hatching which should be around May 10th if I'm correct with my sums. Sue I wonder if he heard something outside and was protecting the eggs in some way although it wasn't necessary because Flo was there but you never know what the male instinct is telling him? I shall keep my eyes open for anything unusual like you say. icon_biggrin Did you notice she was putting her eggs deep into the nest cos it's so cold?

Lovely video Kathy, although I think it might be concerning, I thought Andi looked absolutely exhausted & when he went into the nest, I think it looked like he’d keeled over I’m sorry if it sounds like I’m a ‘Debbie Downer’! Fingers crossed for him Kathy Elle xx

Wow that does seem early as I usually count 14 days from day last egg is laid, but very exciting I better get some mini mealworms somewhere soon as I’m only 3 days behind you, I had presumed I wouldn’t see any action till at least next Monday How many now??

Wow, that is early Kathy, my Poppy started incubating on 25th and Thursday was my estimation, mind you, after all the weird things happening this year, we shouldn’t be surprised Hope things continue to go well Kathy icon_biggrin im so happy to know Andy is ok, I was quite concerned about him the other day, he obviously must of got a few early nights and caught up on his sleep! Thanks everso ladies for your comments. Yes Helen it is a weird one this year so keep um peeled and you Elle! Sue you are toooo kind! & Diane I love sharing! By the way how's the sewing going? I still have 5 hatched eggs so wondering if the others will crack tomorrow? Has anyone got any thoughts on structured incubation? I know they can control when they want them to hatch (ie Caterpillar time) and understand that not all eggs will get the same amount of heat from her, but this is perplexing me as I understand the birds want all the chicks to be ready to fledge at almost the same time. I'm also thinking they might not be fertile as said in video clip. I shall have to be patient.
