Hi Ann Unfortunately I didn't see it in real time but thanks to my recorder and camera holding out it was a tender moment for the happy couple and for me to observe. Hi Paul Yes, it does seem a bit of a long time between finishing the nest and laying, have we had this situation before can't remember? but I'm sure you are right in your thinking. Flo is still coming in at night so I've been expecting to see a white blob first thing in the morning like you. The weather hasn't been warm here and the oaks aren't in leaf yet across on our green belt so think they must be watching for the signs before kicking off. I have had only one pair of Starlings visit since the nesting wriggle video so not holding much hope out there, but after over 125 visits since February I will be disappointed if nothing comes of it.

It seems getting Starlings to nest is hard if nothing becomes of it after all them visits Kathy, All we can do is put the boxes up and help and hope they choose it I guess!

Nice to see a little clip & update from you too Kathy & that Flo is being spoiled. Now Paul not's sure about Tatty either so everyone's still playing the waiting game as far as the blue tits are concerned. I haven't seen my lot either this morning (from the window) but the oak trees aren't quite in leaf yet.

I think you're correct Paul they all seemed to have started way too early and I am still hopeful that I will get a surprise when I least expect it. Besides I have plenty to do within the coming weeks unfortunately there are more things to attend too! Putting up a box is within our control but we can't make them choose us can we!

What a beautiful video Kathy. So lovely to see. Seems all the birds are holding out for that magic moment. We may all have eggs/chicks together after all . Know you are busy but keep the videos coming when you can, they brighten my day, and many others I am sure. Sue

Thanks all All going to plan today Flo seems to have calmed down a bit and is more settled by bringing in her fresh batch of feathers! Andy popped into the nest again but no love token this time, but I'm sure he is just reassuring her he will be around when the family arrives, well that's how I see it anyway. Starling has returned for two visits but I'm keeping an open mind on this one.It was a frost this morning again and Oaks not yet green enough so understand why no eggs yet!!!! My sister who lives 10 mins walk away phoned to say her BT has started nesting for her so I'll keep you informed if I can. Might not be up to speed for a bit with you all as hubby & I are moving offices and oh the junk!!!! Hope it will soon happen for those still waiting.

Thanks Beechnut & Ann Didn't think it was going to happen she took so long to build that nest but I have noticed this morning that our Oaks are showing green now so I think her timing might just be right, but will order some mealies after Easter just in case. Going to read through all posts now and then back to the grindstone of sorting through 20 years of paperwork.

Great Kathy, Looks like Flo and Tatty pretty much did the same. Left a big gap after nest complete to egg laying, This hasn't ever happened before. Tatty is on egg 3 today but her nest as been complete for 2 weeks. But they know what they're doing at the end of the day and when the time is right.

No Paul I didn't think we had gone soooo long between nest completion & egg laying either. 3 eggs to date then for you? Yes, they know what they are doing for sure but I wish I could speak to them as there are many unanswered questions to their behaviour! Have you placed your mealie order yet?

think it is reassuring reading your posts about the gap between nest building and laying, which has been a mystery season this year, i will still hold my breath on my nest

Not yet Kathy, I normally place my first order when incubating starts for the blue tits, Sparrows never seem interested in my live food for them, Put it in a window feeder on window next to the box aswell. Never use it the worms end up dead or starlings eat them!
I normally put the "Scott feeder" near the nest box around 3 days before hatching make sure atleast the male finds it, He normally always does. Then I know she will find it fast by watching him, So still abit to go before my first online order. I'll probably pick a few tubs up from pets at home for the sparrows and try again this year see if they want the help.

Not caught sight of them for couple of days now as been out quite a bit. Just hope all going well. Have a good weekend and don’t work on all that paperwork too hard. Sue
