Looking good Taz, so your guaranteed at least 8 if she hasn’t started incubation yet. Do Greytits lay a smaller amount of eggs than Bluetits?

Meet Fluff! Looks like Fluff has started incubating, although mainly towards the end of the day. I think she may start properly tomorrow, so I would think she may lay one more egg. 8 would be a decent number I think.

I'm not sure hfriel, this is the first time I've had great tits nesting. I'm sure someone on here will know though? I would guess she will lay one more though. Fingers crossed.

Brilliant pictures and great news Taz. I think 8 would be a fantastic clutch for great tits, the way I understand it their clutch is usually quite a bit smaller than the blueys. Amazing Easter for eggs. Sue

Incubation well under way now. No more eggs this morning, so she is now brooding 8 eggs. Alex has been around and fed her a few treats too. Just a waiting game now

Great News Taz! A lovely sized clutch. Now the waiting begins. The next 12-14 days seem to pass so sloooowly.

Thanks blueeyedchick, luckily work will keep me out of mischief. The eggs do look similar too me although I always thought the bluetit eggs were a tad blue with speckles. Wouldn't make much difference to me, my eyesight is not that sharp anymore 😀

Kathy, according to the Woodland Trust website,
Blue tit eggs are Light cream with light brown speckles...
Great tit eggs are White with light brown - red speckles.
While the colourations are almost the same, the sizes are obviously different the BT egg being a whole 2mm less in height and width than a GT!

Good number for her Taz, Pretty big brood for a GT that aswell, Normally lay fewer than the BT's. 8 is my norm for a BT nest, So she's done good!

Sad news from my nest box. At 04:15 today, something disturbed the nest. The nest material has been upended, the camera is not in the right position and it appears that Fluff is no longer in the box.
So upset, probably a cat. I really dislike cats right now
